Yep, there are many, many things he was into that he did not want anyone knowing. Like having s e x with underage boys. Since you study him you would know that's his favorite pastime.

All the reading I've done on Michael and I never knew he was into martial arts and, of course, had a black belt. No matter what feat Michael tackled, he gave it 100%. Those of us who have studied him know he was "just a normal guy" but one that was extremely intelligent, extraordinarily generous and supernaturally talented. Thx for the article.

And I include ourselves in learning from The Tab. It should aways have the student focus, otherwise what's your USP for the reader? (youll find many examples of articles on our site which don't do this. For a weekly paper, there are manic times when we are beholden to contributors, and we were less restrictive for online content).

Just a couple of things on this. The first is to defend The Tab. Far from perfect perhaps in some universities, when done well The Tab is a model for student reporting. Exclusives and a focus on the student bubble. A big problem I tried to adds this year was to drill it into writers heads that they were not a columnist for the guardian. Student newspapers should comment on student issues and they should endeavour to deliver exclusives at all times. The Tab knows its market and tries to 'get' the student community for whereever it sets up. Their hits are impressive and their ethos admirable, if not always lived up to. There are papers out there who could learn a lot.

The second thing I'd like to say, and someone has alluded to it with Durham, is that only a bit of research on our site could have made for a more accurate blurb. Our biggest story this year was exposing homophobic and radical islamic societies against the pressure of the SU, along with a whole series of stories on club promoters, interviews with Syrian students and features on a local cult (against multiple threats of legal action). best of luck to everyone, but I'm not convinced these descriptions do many of the papers justice!

How was this unprofessional in any manner? The response itself was entirely reasonable, and surely discussion should be encouraged. The only way I can possibly comprehend it not being seen as 'professional' is if you have some misconception that /real/ publications are too important to respond to comments on their articles or comments made about them.

(This comment was made based on the inference of sarcasm from the ellipsis, if there was no sarcasm then I'm sorry. Also I'm not a writer for the WS, so I reserve the right to be entirely unprofessional about your stupid reply.)

To claim the Wessex Scene had a bias during the NUS referendum is complete rubbish.

In fact, two of our editors conducted an interview with Liam Burns which was deemed unpublishable without a coherent response from the no2NUS team.

Mate. It's pretty hard for David Siesage to claim he wrote this piece when the first sentence of the body copy says (in bold): "Seb Brixey-Williams writes for the University of York’s Nouse..." If it's too confusing for you to figure out who wrote this article, maybe using the Internet in general is a little out of your league.

Palatinate has done so much more than remaining consistently updated throughout the year, but has broken many revealing stories and exposed a lot of truths about Durham University. I really like the comment section too, and the redesigned indigo magazine inside the paper is fantastic.

It's frustrating how Wessex Scene is the only publication I ever see on here that gets abuse every time it's featured. Oddly enough, we must be do something right to appear on here at all. We appear to have a really dedicated set of enemies, at least.

Hi ex WS writer, I am a new writer and section editor for the Scene, so whilst admittedly I don't know a lot about the history of the newspaper, I do know that now all of the writer's are encouraged to write freely, as long as their views are fair and accord to media codes and ethics. This was something we all particularly discussed at this year's Student Publication Association. Also, in my view, the Wessex Scene is so much more than writing about/being affiliated with just the uni/union. If you look at the website, you will see that we try to include a range of material and differing opinions over many different topics. I hope you can appreciate that I think your comment is unfair.

Good luck to all those nominated but it's a shame non-SPOTM publications were not considered, or any publications from outside the top 25-ish uni's.

There are a lot of great publications across the UK which do not seem to get recognised by OTW, instead it seems to be the 'same old faces'.
